So I watched 1989′s “The Wizard”and totally forgot that Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley is in it.
This is no secret, really. In fact, most people who follow this kind of music will tell you the very same thing if you bring it up. In fact, it’s probably the reason YOU brought it up to them in the first place.
(Even if I’m not wild about their new record, Jenny is cute as a button and the previous albums were great)
Regardless, this film… .is classic.
Is it a good movie by any conventional cinematic standard? Not in the least.
Yet, for people my age, this film was basically one big commercial for awesome.
And to top it off, at the end, it debuted a sneak preview of Super Mario Bros. 3.
I shit bricks when I saw it. Bricks.
I feel terrible for the parents who brought their children to see this.
For whatever price that a theater ticket cost back in 1989, it was probably reassuring to know that because of this film, they were going to be paying an additional 50 dollars to get that Super Mario Bros. 3 game that the 1.5 hour commercial they just watched peddled to their kids.
Watching it again was strange, especially since I remembered so many parts quite vividly and it’s coming up on 20 years since I initially saw the film. That’s actually quite depressing, when I put it like that…
…I leave you with an infamous line from the film.
haha so that’s where u got ur myspace headline? yea. i’ll never forget that movie. i’ve only seen it once. and the reason i started watching it was because i saw that a young Fred Savage was casted. Also, anything dealing with Nintendo is the shiiit. Of course, when i saw it i didn’t shit bricks because it was already ten years old and i had already beaten Super Mario bros 3 a few times. what a game though
